Deliberating on Firewalls

I have been using a software vpn for all my remoting needs for my different business clients.  It seems that these have a drawback when it comes to speed.  They are very easy to setup and the cost is minimal, but when you have more than 3 or 4 stores pulling from a single server over software vpn's, it can get cranky.

I'm looking at upgrading to these http://www.sonicwall.com/us/products/TZ_Series.html

These won't break the bank, but will also provide the security and stability small businesses need to grow fast

I'll keep this blog up to date on what my decision is.

If you have been watching TV lately, Mac's have been getting all the attention.  They claim to have better software and better hardware.  I beg to differ.  The hard drive and memory that is inside a mac are the same brands that you would find inside a Dell or HP.  The LCD display is the same brand that you would find in a Dell or HP.  And just because these components are in a "Apple" doesn't make them any less prone to failure.

One thing we do here at Quick Computer Fix is try to educate customers on some preventative actions that can prevent them from having to bring their computer in again.  One main thing, ***NEVER*** click on a file with the extension ".exe" unless it is coming from a reputable website.  If you are not sure, do not open it.  These files are the main way "hackers" gain access to your computer.  Most web-based email clients block these.

Apparently when upgrading certain netbooks to Windows 7, you have to upgrade the BIOS as well.  Too bad it took me 2 hours of sweat and tears to figure that out.

I took a short trip to Georgia this past Sunday and arrived back in town late on Wednesday. I'll be playing catch-up these next few days meeting the customers who called me over vacation.
